Symposium on the impact of digital age on human capital development- Labour Market

Outcomes: skills Gaps, Occupations, Education and Training

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea 26th February 2018

The HRDWG opening ceremony and the welcome message by the APEC team in PNG Ms Mary Morola, on behalf of the host economy, welcomed, the participating delegates, for a embers and invited dignitaries to the PNG hosted HRDWG Symposium

Ms Morola introduced the purpose of the symposium, which is focused on the importance of Human Capital Development; skills and competency needs; skills training and cross boarder education; Informalities and extent of the Social protection, changes in occupational sector and contribution to legal framework development.

Mr Rudie Filion, deputy head of delegation of the EU to PNG was invited to provide a snapshot on the important roles development partners paly in enhancing HCD in the digital age. EU is in support of the importance of digital connectivity. EU emphasised that PNG is already in the same wavelength with EU to pursue Human Resource development and technology.

Present AT Dai one of the symposium were Sir Brown Bai, Dr Segie Bang, Director General of national agriculture institute of PNG, Dr David Kavanamur, Mr Satoshi Sasaki and Mr Francis Hualupmomi from higher education contributed their thoughts into the HRDWG developments with strong emphasises on skills training .

The panel discussions presenters included Mr Robin Fleming form BSP, Professor Cecelia Nembou, President, divine word University,

Mr Jerry Wemin President PNG HRI and A/ Chancellor, UPNG, Dr Davi Kavanamur , KPU. In Responding to comments by Dr Cecelia Nembou on the lack of PNG recruitment and skills training and banks helping in skills development, Ms Jeanne sliviak co-chair for PNG Desk commented that PNG is doing well with BPNG pushing for financial literacy which has seen 1 million users training and having access to banking facilities in the last 5 years.

The symposium continues for the whole week and ends on the 2nd March 2018.
